Use the mainsheet along with the traveler and top mainsail batten to put just the right amount of twist into your mainsail

1. Moderate winds
Most boats start to perform their best at around 6 to 8 knots. Center the mainsheet on the traveler track. Twist should start about 50% of the way up the leech. Ease the mainsheet until the uppermost (top) batten parallels the boom.

2. Super Light Winds
Flukey, variable winds have a tough time staying glued to your mainsail. Give these zephyrs a flatter, smoother sail to help them out. Pull the mainsheet car a hole or two upwind of the center of the traveler. Next, ease the mainsheet until the uppermost batten opens up just a slight bit to leeward.

3. Gusty, Heavy Winds
Balance the boat to keep it driving without being overpowered (excessive heeling and weather helm). Move the mainsheet downwind or; even to the end of the traveler track. Adjust the mainsheet to start twist early and keep the boat on her feet (flat) and driving ahead.
