Sail Passage to the Caribbean!
Imagine sailing 1,600 miles from the cold waters of New England across the Gulf Stream east of Bermuda, and into the warm, tropical, blue-green paradise of St. Maarten in the Caribbean. Come aboard for this once-in-a-lifetime video presentation from Captain John's latest crewing experience aboard a gorgeous Outbound 44.
Her owner and skipper--Peter Bourke--has sailed her in the single-handed race across the Atlantic (called "OSTAR") from England to the US and the Bermuda 1-2 race.
She weighs 28,000 pounds, has 10,000 pounds of ballast, and carries a draft of 6'06". A 13'03" beam adds to her seagoing stability and safety.
Her towering mast stands 65 feet above the water and supports over 1,000 square feet of sail (mainsail, Genoa, and Solent staysail).
Her 40'03" waterline gives her a maximum hull speed of 8.5 knots under sail or power. In light air, a super efficient 75-horse Yanmar diesel provides all the power necessary to get her home.
Tankage includes 200 gallons of fresh water in two separate tanks and 160 gallons of diesel split the same way. All tanks are installed in the main bilge to maximize cabin and provisioning space.
