Are You Ready to Gain the Skills You Need to Become a Masterful Sailing Skipper?

Do You Need a Mentor to Help You Fulfill Your Lifelong Sailboat Cruising Dreams?

Hi, Captain John here. I want to welcome you and tell you a bit about myself and why I started this website. Then you can decide whether it's what you're looking for to make your sailing dreams come true.

I'm a 20+ year Coast Guard veteran, where I served as a search and rescue coxswain, ship driver and certified master training specialist, with tens of thousands of sea miles under my belt.

I am a published maritime author, certified (by the CG) professional maritime instructor to teach up through 100 ton masters level licenses, a nationally certified sailing instructor, and a licensed captain under power or sail.

If you are anything like me, you are frustrated by the overwhelming amount of info out there on navigation, anchoring, knot tying, boat handling, marine weather and sailing. You just want to cut to the chase!

But how do you get rid of the bread and find just the meat that will make your small boat cruising dreams a reality. To gain the confidence and knowledge you need to sail over the horizon to those Islands in the Stream that Hemingway wrote about. Or explore that small snug harbor a few miles up the coast that you've dreamed of visiting one day?

The main reason for this site is to give YOU just the meat. I've already dug through this mound of books and information to bring you just the meat. I continue to labor at this day in and day out. Why?

To make sure that you don't have to do this. That you only get the best of the best in each article, video, and report on this site. Skippertips.com is your one-stop-shop to find the sailing skipper-skills you need to cruise anywhere in the world.

Tried, proven, stuff that will work on my boat, your boat, or any boat every time. That's why you need to join skippertips.com. To make sure you're getting the meat with the most sizzle each and every time you log on!

I will be your friend, shipmate, and mentor. It's my passion to see YOU succeed like thousands that I taught in the past have succeeded. To make sure YOU become a well rounded skipper that can handle anything that happens aboard your boat. To show YOU the fast, easy ways to make decisions to keep your cruising sailboat and her crew safe and sound.

But a great skipper needs a lot more knowledge than just push button navigation these days. Your life may depend on knowing the paper chart and pencil stuff along with super simple basic calculations. I'll show you how to do this the fast, easy way.

You will need to know how to anchor in all weather conditions, how to predict weather better than some guy stuck in a room, or how to shape your boat sails for blazing power and speed. Let me be your guide to show you how to do this easier than ever before.

Out of the hundreds of knots and splices, what do you really need to know? I'll guide you by showing you just the "prime rib" of marine knots secrets, methods and techniques so that in no time, you'll be wowing your friends at the docks.

Most days, you'll find fresh, up-to-date articles to help you succeed. And you'll find many others in the article archives. Sure, I go out sailing sometimes, but I won't leave you hanging like an exposed fender on a piling. I'll make sure you have fresh, new articles on the site while I'm sailing the ocean blue.

You'll find videos on the site too. These are custom drawn illustrations with my crusty old voice to help guide you to a "fast-track" learning method that I personally developed. Things like trimming your sails for power and speed, anchoring in heavy weather, docking or undocking in tight spots, heaving to at sea, or how to tie knots faster than ever before.

Hope you'll join us. Click here to learn more
